“ Good dumplings, good sauce. The people here were very nice and even to go, the presentation was nice on the dumplings. All of the soup dumplings had their own little bowl so you could add sauce and slurp on it. The pork and shrimp had an exceptionally good flavor very traditional, reminded me of food I haven't had for decades. I also had cream cheese fried wantons very good but not as sweet and creamy as others I've had and good dipping sauce. I would go out of my way to stop here again. ”

“ Our family went in after spending the day at the Academy of sciences. We found a spot right infront of the shop. We got quick prompt service which was great. The shop was clean and well put togather. We ordered the chicken wings, pork and chive dumplings, soup dumplings and fried dumplings. They me the winner was the chicken wings, they were so crispy and delicious. The dumplings were good not great. The fired dumpling were probably the best. I found the chive dumping were a little too chivey, and the soup dumplings were a bit bland. ”

“ A nice team oversees this spot, but my food experience was "just okay" despite the glowing write ups and delicious looking photos I saw before heading here. It's a schlep out to Fuwa in the outer Avenues & a mixed experience: the cucumber salad was a solid, simple rendition, delicious garlicky with macerated cucumbers, while the chive pancake was crunchy and quite plain, despite an addition of chili oil, soy sauce and vinegar. The service experience was positive and attentive, with tea being refilled and many smiles. A very clean, fast food sit down dining room. Three stars for food, rounding up to four when including service. I may try again here & assess the XLBs, but I'm skeptical of XLBs served in tin cups, as it tends to rip apart these juicy little morsels. ”

“ Looking for a new dumpling place to try and came across Fuwa dumpling restaurant in my bookmarks. It was a Monday, so it was quiet in the area and parking seemed relatively easy. A few tables were available when we got there around 1 pm. The place was clean and spacious and server was friendly. Though when I was struggling with the noodle soup, it would have been nice to get some scissors to cut the noodles. They were extremely long and never ending! Here's what we ordered: CHIVE EGG PRAWN & PORK DUMPLING ~ Boiled, tender dumplings with tasty filling made to order. Much like many other dumpling places, you can see them making them on the side. 5/5 HOUSE SPECIAL BEEF NOODLE SOUP ~ Noodles and beef were soft though the broth didn't seem to wow us. It was lacking the beef umami flavor we were expecting. And serving size was less than average. The noodles didn't have a chew to it. Possibly overcooked? Disappointing since many reviewers raved about this dish. 3/5 SPICY THINLY SLICED PIG EAR ~ this tasted much like most restaurants though I thought it was a bit too salty. However, they did give us plenty. 3/5 We've had our share of house-made dumplings and these are about the same. We're usually in the Sunset and probably wouldn't drive across the park for this as there are many restaurants near us serving dumplings. It may cost a few dollars more, but serving size is a lot larger in the sunset. But if you're into petite servings, then maybe Fuwa dumplings is right up your alley. Prices are fair for what you get. “ The arrival of Fuwa Dumpling (福娃餃子) has been met with solid fanfare, while quietly embedding itself into the low key Balboa dining community. As a true noodle + dumpling specialty spot, they offer a number of Chinese dough comfort food options, adding to the Richmond area's already roust Chinese food scene. Fuwa (福娃) is the cutesy, cartoony Chinese mascot famous from the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing (#1). While the branding feels a bit chain'y, I'm not mad at it, especially with the spill proof menus. The place is modest at best space wise, but they've managed to turn the former Little Wok space (#2) into one that feels clean, bright, and spacious enough for small'ish groups. The sign of any good authentic dumpling spot is seeing the dumplings get made in action. They have 1-3 ladies constantly churning out dumplings and rolling dough, that it's hard not to recognize the DTF feels of dedicated staff dumpling making. It's extra, but a welcome sight for me no less. Overall, I'm incredibly pleased with the food. I thoroughly enjoyed the cucumber salad (拌黄瓜) for $7 and the chives pancake (韭菜合子) was a great starter choice. The boiled dumplings (水餃) are just under a $1 each and come in a set of 14 pieces. They're plump with a smooth texture and pillowy soft, reminding me of dumplings up north. The same bodes for the napa cabbage pork fried dumplings (白菜豬肉鍋貼), which was perfectly crispy and juicy with every bite. The sliced marinated beef (醬牛肉 - $10) was tender and went wonderfully with the accompanying sauce. The beef noodle soup (牛肉麵) was such a surprise hit that my table of dining companions were attempting to slurp the broth and the noodles because it was so good. The chunks of beef were outstanding and I would venture to say this was our highlight of the meal. Finally, the XLB was the only thing that was less than stellar. I appreciated the mini cups for each one but the dumpling skin would often get stuck on it, leading to a lot of breakage. Overall the flavors were there and the juice was tasty and I would easily order this again. Our waiter from northeast China was sweet. He was quick with the recommendations and checked in on us often. The whole staff was on it and I'm always appreciative of their efforts. Ultimately, I think everyone owes themselves a trip to this place. Instead of focusing exclusively on their XLB, I'd order all the dumplings, along with a few more items. The prices are not on the low end, but I think the quality and service will more than make up for it.
